Airfield Information

  • Aerodrome located in high density flying training area (3500 FT ALT/GND)
  • Remain clear of FAGG TMA I (FL145/3500FT ALT)
  • FAMO is a busy training airfield. All aircraft MUST have two way radio communication.
  • Q & As contains helpful information wrt aircraft on a flight plan for FAMO.
  • Prior to joining, monitor 126.225 Mhz for latest FAGG ATIS – (Automatic Terminal Information Service)
  • Aerodrome located in high density flying training area (3500 FT ALT/GND)
    Remain clear of FAGG TMA I (FL145/3500FT ALT)
  • FAMO is a registered Parachute Dropzone. PJE between sunrise & sunset. Broadcast on 124.2 MHz. Monitor 124.2 MHz for jump plane advisory calls. Aircraft hold 1nm from airfield while jumps in progress.
  • Unmanned airfield joining procedure by all fixed-wing aircraft. Join overhead 2500 FT ALT on FAGG QNH (except when parachute dropping is in progress) The “dead side” to the North of the airfield not below 1500 FT ALT crossing extended runway centrelines.
  • Helicopters, Gyrocopters and Weight Shift Microlights (WCM’s) join not above 1300 FT ALT on a downwind leg for RW in use.
  • ALL Fixed Wing circuits (including 3-axis Conventional Controlled Microlights): South of RWY 10/28 – 1500 FT.
  • Helicopters, Gyrocopters & Weight Shift Microlights (WCM’s) circuits: North of RWY 10/28 not above 1300 FT.
  • Aircraft to remain clear of FAR 150 (1500FT ALT/GND) 2NM West of THR 10 (PETROSA).
  • Avoid unnecessary low flying in vicinity of aerodrome. Ostrich farming, horse riding school south of airfield and residential areas near airfield.
  • Respect and noise abatement towards our neighbours nurtures good neighbourliness. Please respect our neighbours.

About us

The Mossel Bay Aero Club is a vibrant aviation community based at Mossel Bay Aerodrome (FAMO) in the Western Cape. Operated on behalf of the Mossel Bay Municipality, the club manages a privately licensed airfield that supports general aviation, flight training, and recreational flying. 

With on-site fuel services, hangar facilities, and a registered parachute drop zone, the airfield serves pilots, aviation enthusiasts, and visiting aircraft from across the region. Run by a dedicated volunteer committee, the Aero Club promotes safe flying practices, camaraderie, and a strong sense of community through regular events, social gatherings, and aviation activities.
